Thomas (Tom) J. Galloway, Sr. holds the positions of president, chief executive officer (CEO), and board member of the North American Transmission Forum (NATF). As the CEO, Mr. Galloway is entrusted with the formulation of strategic directives, the guidance of personnel, and the facilitation of member engagements aimed at advancing NATF's overarching mission: the promotion of excellence in the reliable, secure, resilient, and safe operation of the electric system.
Under Mr. Galloway's leadership, NATF conducts rigorous activities aimed at disseminating confidential information within the membership concerning system challenges, lessons learned, and associated best practices, thereby fostering an environment of continuous improvement. These activities encompass a diverse spectrum of program areas, including peer reviews, assistance programs, training, best practices dissemination, pioneering initiatives, operating experience reports, comprehensive surveys, metrics and the innovative RESTORE (spare parts sharing) program.
Mr. Galloway has played a pivotal role in elevating NATF's stature within the industry, notably in spearheading discussions on critical subjects such as supply chain, accurate and comprehensive facility ratings, the adoption of risk-informed strategies pertaining to reliability and compliance, and methodologies aimed at quantifying and enhancing system resilience. Recognizing the broad scope of industry challenges, Mr. Galloway facilitates deliberate collaboration with selected external organizations including the Elected Power Research Institute (EPRI) and the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC). These collaborations ensure NATF remains keenly aware of the latest research and regulatory developments and helps promote aligned activities and avoid duplication of effort.
Mr. Galloway holds degrees in electrical engineering and business management as well as related professional certifications. Commencing his career in 1981 with Northeast Utilities, Mr. Galloway honed his expertise through a succession of engineering and managerial roles, progressively assuming greater responsibilities. Subsequently, he served a decade at the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), accruing valuable insights into human performance, organizational effectiveness, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
Following his tenure at INPO, Mr. Galloway assumed the role of Vice President and Director of Compliance at SERC Reliability Corporation, where he oversaw the meticulous implementation of the NERC Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Program (CMEP) within the SERC region. Preceding his tenure at NATF, Mr. Galloway held the positions of Chief Reliability Officer and Senior Vice President for the Reliability Performance organization at NERC.
During Mr. Galloway's twelve-year stewardship as CEO of NATF, the organization has experienced significant membership growth and has made profound strides in bolstering transmission reliability, security, resilience, and safety.
